| Paul became a successful trainer after gaining considerable experience with both the late Sir Noel Murles and Captain Tim Forster and finally with Mr J.A.C Edwards. During his training career, and having up to 30 horses in his string, Paul bought a big imposing horse from Ireland, who later paved our way to stardom with a famous victory at the Cheltenham festival, not forgetting a host of other very good Racehorses who passed through our hands. Paul trained for 25 years before retiring after which he purchased top quality proven mares bred for both the Flat and National Hunt for the purpose of breeding.
Our experience does not just lie with the thoroughbreds, both our children moved through the ranks of Pony Club and Riding Club enjoying all the disciplines of horsemanship. They were extremely lucky to have good ponies which became much sought after, when the children out grew them. This opened a market for Paul and Myself to start buying and selling good riding ponies suitable for children. This has grown and we have found a huge demand for ‘Bombproof’ horses and ponies, with an established supply going to the 'Riding for the Disabled' at Holme Lacy in Hereford, 'Cotswold' in Cheltenham and Harpury College in Gloucestershire. this has led to a very good reputation being developed and has opened a much larger market around the country.
I have a passion for welsh ponies and have always had the desire to show in hand, the opportunity occurred when, my children having grown up, Paul bought me a beautiful section A, a Flydon mare for my birthday. she was brought down from Scotland and shown by Shona Thompson from whom I purchased her and was placed 6th out of 48 barren mares who were entered., That day was in fact my actual birthday, something I will never forget, that led to a great friendship with Shona and Brian Thompson who introduced us to the Section C’s which both Paul and I fell in love with. We now have a Synod C filly and we intend to increase our interest in Section C's along with our 12 thoroughbreds.
We, as a family, take a keen interest in the equestrian world, and my daughter Charlotte has taken a year out at one of the largest studs in Australia to learn all aspects of stud work, she will also spend a couple of months preparing yearlings at the sales on the gold coast, something which she has expressed a desire to do here along with boarding mares.
Our son Oliver is very keen on the farm side and is happy to keep the fields and general maintenance of the farm in good order, he does like his racing and is a member of Cheltenham race goers club, an interest which I think he will pursue in future.
We both feel excited at this new venture and hope visitors to the website will enjoy the horses and ponies as much as we do. The web will guide you through the thoroughbreds mares and yongstock, Section A and Section C’s and all our riding horses and ponies past and present. Do visit the For Sale option as we always have something available. |
